Ellis, Alton The Guiness Who's Who Of Reggae:
He hailed from a musical family and was reputed as Jamaica's most soulful singer. Muriel a song he did with Eddy Perkins was a massive hit in the late 50s.
Roots Rocks Reggae:
* He sang to the likes of international singers such as Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson as one of the all time greats and was dubbed 'King' of the rocksteady era. He also recorded duets with sister Hortense. Willow Tree, Breaking Up, Pearl and I'm Just A Guy were some of his biggest hits in the late sixties.

* Ability to take R&B or soul songs and place them in a specifically Jamaican context and so make them reggae songs rather than mere cover versions.
