* He emerged on the music scene with slack and gun-touting lyrics. His first hit was in 1990 with Number One (on the look good chart). Another massive hit came in 1992 with Armshouse.
Demonstrated that he could also handle cultural and reality issues.
Clarke, Gussie The Guiness Who's Who of Reggae:
* Early pioneer in the new DJ style. His first production U Roy's The Higher Mountain in 1972 was an instant classic. Big Youth's Screaming Target and I Roy's Presenting, are among the best DJ albums of all time. Unlike other entertainers, he paid royalties and kept a publishing company. When he became digital in the late 80s, he appeared way ahead of the pack, using computers and synthethizers.
His labels became synonymous with quality reggae.

* Started out by doing 45's for a sound systsem operator which brought him little public attention. Hurricane Hattie which he wrote, was his first local hit. His real break came in 1969 with Wonderful World and Beautiful People. The harder they come which he starred, was considered to be the best home-grown film, and its soundtrack one of the biggest selling records of all time.

* He debuted with the album Wha Them A Go Do in 1985 and continued to record other local hit songs.

* He did two outstanding albums for Joe Gibbs at the end of the seventies, and followed up with several equal fine discs with Sonia Pottinger. The latter was released in the UK and helped propel Culture to international status.
